The course on Ethics, Regulation and Privacy sets the basics for an understanding of the ethical issues surrounding studies on biomedical data, including the values at stake and the challenges posed by biomedical research. It also describes the role of bioethics commitees in the discussion and aproval of research activities, along with the guiding principles to conduct such activities. Then, the course introduces the relevant regulation and good practices surrounding the collection, governance, processing, protection, sharing and release of biomedical data, especially when such data are related to individuals. Finally, the course will descibe appropriate design principles and technologies, including privacy models and anonymization techniques, to ensure the security and privacy of the individuals whose data is used to conduct research activities.
