TEACHING METHODOLOGY & COURSE WORK
Teaching will be in lecture format, often using multimedia material to illustrate historical and cultural contexts. In-class Practical work will consist of group discussion and dialogue with the teacher on set texts.
There will be an anthology of course material purchasable at the URV Photocopy service. This will contain all the texts necessary during the course, and some familiarity with the entire contents is one of the requirements of the course.
Apart from regular attendance in class, and reading preparation for each class (in advance), the course will require students to develop their critical skills in the practice of textual commentary. This will be done through practical, oral group work, in the form of discussion of set questions relating a given text, and in the form of self-assessed written exercises. Some of these may be done in class time, during practical sessions. When done outside class time, these commentaries must be handed in to the teacher before the stated dates, for final assessment purposes, but will be returned during the course. Students will be informed of deadlines on the first day of class.
