To offer a general view of the different movements that have shaped English literature from its beginnings to the nineteenth century, focussing on the characteristics, as well as on the main historical, social, cultural and artistic dimensions of each period. This course is mainly "canonical" and is interesting in that it establishes the foundation for the wealth of other literatures in English. The course will be taught by Liz Russell (Themes 1,2,3) in the first semester and Cristina Andreu (Themes 4,5,6) in the second semester.
