Introductory activities | Review of previously studied concepts in speech production and sound classification |
Lecture | Presentation of theoretical concepts in phonetics and phonology. Detailed study of the main aspects of the acoustics of English, with concentration on some relevant issues that have an effect on the learning of English as a foreign language. General presentation of the phonology of English, with concentration on segmental and, especially, suprasegmental aspects such as metrical structure (syllable, foot and word level) and stress assignment. |
Problem solving, classroom exercises | For each theory lecture there will be a set of practical exercises that students will have to work at home and in class. |
Practicals using information and communication technologies (ICTs) in computer rooms | Recording and analyzing of speech sounds using Praat Speech Analysis Software. |
