  Description
Introductory activities The course will begin with an initial discussion of the role of the professional editor and how this relates to the role of the professional translator. The course design, structure and format will also be presented and the course assignments and evaluations will be defined.
Problem solving, exercises The consolidation (homework) exercises are designed to enable students to practise the concepts of copy editing and style editing analysed during the group sessions. These exercises will be discussed thoroughly in class during the following group session.
Seminars Seminars will be held on copy editing and on style editing. During these sessions, the basic concepts of the rules and guidelines will be presented and discussed, anecdotes, examples and illustrations will be provided, and consolidation assignments will be set to be completed outside the classroom.
IT-based practicals Students will be given a final editing assignment in which they will practise their newly acquired editing skills by revising the translation of one of their colleagues. They will also be given a final translation assignment to test their translation ability and their response to the revision of their work conducted by one of their colleagues. Both of these assignments will be completed via the online course management system.
