| The objectives of this course are: To understand that critical theory will help us to recognise and analyse the power structures at work in the construction of gender, identity, nationalism and processes of symbolic interpretation. To understand that language is central to the construction and deconstruction of meaning. To provide critical tools for analysing popular and media culture (from feminism and gender studies, psychoanalytic theory, postcolonial criticism and philosophy).
