Analysing extracts from:

-Gulliver's Travels 		-Literature in a global world
-Critical reading and thinking
-Concepts: author, work, reader, narrator(s), characters, plot, setting, point of view, context, genres and subgenres, time, structure.


-Position of narration determines point of view.
-'I' & 'the other'. Why travel writing in the 18th century.
-Travelling nowadays and how we perceive other cultures.

-Hard Times 		-Images & metaphors. Autobiographical narration. Realism.


-The context of the industrial revolution. Facts & Fancy. Finding similarities and differences with our contemporary times of recession.
-The Mill on the Floss -George Eliot: Writing with a pseudonym? Women's writing.

-To the Lighthouse
-Major characteristics of modernism: the deconstruction of conventional literary patterns: time, structure, narrator. Emphasis on 'how', and not on 'what' is narrated.

Analysing short stories:

The Content: Analysis of issues dealing with women, marriage, caste, love, tradition and colonial and postcolonial influences.
The Form: a (post)modernist structure; a non-linear narration; literary resources (similes, alliteration, paradoxes, metaphors, intertextuality, hyperbaton etc.).
