-Images & metaphors. Autobiographical narration. Realism.


-The context of the industrial revolution. Facts & Fancy. Finding similarities and differences with our contemporary times of recession.

-Major characteristics of modernism: the deconstruction of conventional literary patterns: time, structure, narrator. Emphasis on 'how', and not on 'what' is narrated.

The Content: Analysis of issues dealing with women, marriage, caste, love, tradition and colonial and postcolonial influences.
The Form: a (post)modernist structure; a non-linear narration; literary resources (similes, alliteration, paradoxes, metaphors, intertextuality, hyperbaton etc.).
