The objective of this course is to reflect on the images and discourses in relation to identities (national, gender, sexual, cultural, ethnic, social class, etc.) that circulate in contemporary audiovisual media, focusing on cinema. Throughout the course, we will explore the main trends in contemporary representational models that occur either on television or in fiction and non-fiction cinema, and we will discuss outstanding examples that will allow us to tackle the relationships between audiovisual production and the building of identities, as well as the very complexity of the term "identity". Likewise, throughout the course, the students will delve into what they consider their own identity, and develop an audiovisual project that in some way challenges their understanding (this could be done through fiction, as everything else!). This work can be carried out individually or collectively with other peers in the classroom, but it will always be required to choose as a topic some aspects of identity dealt with in the classroom, that have a relevance for the students involved. |
