The development of external internships is organized in four phases:
Phase I. Information, choice and assignment of the centre or institution of internships
Phase II. Information and contextualization of intership
Phase III. Internships in the center or institution
Phase IV. Completion of the intership and evaluation
Each student will have two tutors: one designated by the internship center (center tutor) and the other by the intership coordinator.
(academic tutor).
Phase I. Information, choice and assignment of the center or institution of the internships
At this stage informative meetings and emails should be sent information to facilitate the procedure for prioritizing centres for students and the subsequent assignment.
The assignment of internship centers is carried outbased on the student's grade. In Work Placement I, the average grade of the academic record of the degree that gives access to the master's degree, and for the Internships.
Phase II. Information and contextualization of interships
Before starting the placement at the internship centre, the academic tutor must schedule a tutorial with the student to tell him/her about the internship report and the assessment criteria of evaluation of the work placement..
After this first tutorial with the student, it is highly recommended that the academic tutor, together with the student, organize a first meeting at the centre with the professional tutor in order to specify
aspects related to the operation of the intership and sign the commitment sheet.
Three copies of the internship commitment must be signed: one for the internship center, another for the student and a third for the
University. It is essential to upload this third copy on virtual campus (Moodle).
Phase III. Internships at the center or institution
During the stay at the center, the practices can evolve by several phases. The first phase is preparation, in which the student must
focus on observing the operation of the center and the tasks of the different professionals who work there. The second phase is
accompanied intervention,in which the student can carry out some simple intervention or task with the direct support and supervision of the professional tutor. Finally,
at a more advanced stage of the internship, if the center tutor deemed appropriate, the student may be encouraged to move on to the phase of supervised autonomous intervention, in which the student performs tasks similar to those of the previous phase, but more autonomously and with less less direct supervision. In all phases the student must respect the ethical and deontological principles of the profession of health psychologist.
Phase IV. Completion of the internships and evaluation
Once the internship is finished, it is recommended that the student, the center tutor and the academic tutor have a
final meeting, whether face-to-face or virtual, to reflect on the aspects that have worked properly and those that could have improved
in the interships. Communication between academic tutor, center tutor and the student is essential throughout the process
of internships to solve any problem or difficulty that arises as quickly as possible.
Internships are evaluated through the assessment of the professional tutor and the assessment of the internship report evaluated by the academic tutor.
Activities to do in the internships
In addition to the activities that the student carries out in the center of internships under the supervision of the
professional tutor, there are two fundamental activities that the student must also do: tutorials with the academic tutor and the intership report.
a) Tutorials with the academic tutor
The objective of the tutorials with the academic tutor is to adviset he student about the contents and characteristics of the external internships, resolve queries and problems and keep
track of the development of internships. It is recommended at least three meetings:
Initial meeting: meeting between the academic tutor, the professional tutor and the student to agree on the internship calendar
and schedule, present the professional tutor to the student and sign the commitment sheet.
Follow-up meeting: face-to-face, online, telephone or written contact between the academic tutor and the student to monitor the operation of the
internship.
End meeting: face-to-face, online, meeting or contact via telephone between the academic tutor, the center tutor and the student
to assess the entire internship process.
b) The internship report
The internship report refers to the report that the student prepares in relation to the internship at the center. It is the
academic tutor who must provide specific indications for its elaboration and who is responsible for evaluating this work based on some criteria. These criteria were established by the coordinator of the internships.
