General description and relevant information This is a course that focuses on the debates on the globalization of culture and its social impact. It is structured in four parts. It starts on the debate about the "clash of civilizations" to enter on the issue of multiculturalism and identity. Secondly we propose a trip to the ideas of "liquid society" and postmodernity, that link to a reflection around the mass cultural products (sports, movies, music). Third, we develop a reflection on the concepts of transnational and diasporic culture. It closes with the reinterpretation of the concept of hegemony, and the articulation of new trends in the field of soft-power, geopolitical and network society. It is a subject of discussion and debate but also practice and there will be exposure of various materials (documentaries, series, movies, etc.). Overall, it is an exercise that proposes an intellectual challenge to better understand global and cross cultural phenomena, and meet thinkers that make current trends.
