Understand how oncogenes are able to initiate tumor growth. Understand the biological significance of DNA repair and recombination processes and their importance in the evolution of genomes. Know how information is organized in the eukaryotic nuclear genome and become aware of the limitations of our knowledge and the speed of change. Know the basic tools of recombinant DNA technology, molecular cloning and the construction of genotheques. Be aware that discoveries in molecular genetics have made possible the development of recombinant DNA technology. Be able to discuss the potential effects of mutations depending on the specific site of the DNA sequence in which they occur. Be able to discuss the importance of epigenetic mechanisms that can modulate the message expression of the DNA sequence. Know that DNA methylation can be influenced by environmental factors such as diet. | |
