General description and relevant information |
Tissue engineering constitutes a set of biotechnologically-based knowledge, techniques and methods that allow tissue substitutes, artificial tissues or constructs of heterologous or autologous origin to be designed and generated in the laboratory from stem cells, cell cultures and biomaterials. Tissue engineering is a huge advance for cell therapy and regenerative medicine. This subject offers an integrative vision of the repair and regeneration challenges presented by the different tissues of the human body and the emerging scientific and biomedical advances in regenerative medicine to improve the quality of its cellular and tissue response. The learning objective of this subject is to understand the fundamentals of cell therapies, the fundamentals of tissue engineering and histology of the basic tissues of the human body (nervous, connective, muscular and epithelial). As a prior step to acquire skills in the development of biocompatible materials and design of solutions for health problems through engineering techniques to repair, replace or improve organs/tissues. This subject is taught in CATALAN. Information sources and learning resources are available in different languages. |
