General description and relevant information

SHORT DESCRIPTION:

Design and calculation of metal and reinforced concrete structures, using computer applications

CONTEXT:

This is a subject that belongs to the field of structural design and the world of construction

The subject is fundamentally applied, although it will also focus on theoretical aspects related to it

TARGETS:

Achieve an overview of the most common structural typologies in construction

Learn to calculate real structures of reinforced concrete and steel, in accordance with current regulations

Learn to use professional software in the calculation of structures

Learn to interpret the results obtained from the calculation and to correct errors

Develop intuition towards the design of structures

Develop the ability to imagine and think to find solutions to specific problems in the structural field

Development of the ability to work and interact in a team

The contents of the subject will be delivered through Moodle (course program, notes, manuals, regulations, statements of exercises and works, etc).

Classes will be face-to-face. In order to be able to follow up on the problems and exercises that arise, the students will come to the classroom with a laptop on which the software to be used has been installed.

Students will preferably raise their doubts during classes or in the Moodle doubts forum.

The continuous evaluation of the subject will consist of practices (2 team work and several individual exercises) and theoretical tests (2 partial exams). The grade for the course will be obtained by weighting 75% for the practices, and 25% for the theoretical tests.
