General description and relevant information This course is an introduction to environmental management for organisations. It presents the requirements and the steps for implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) in an organisation. An EMS is a tool for companies and other organisations to improve their environmental performance whilst saving energy and other resources. There are two models for implementing an EMS: ISO 14001 or EMAS, both are presented in this course. One of the most critical elements for a successful implementation of an EMS is to develop a good procedure for identifying and assessing the environmental aspects, this task will be done as a practical exercise in the course.
