ANALYSIS OF EXTRACTS FROM:
Gulliver's Travels -Position of narration determines point of view.
-'I' & 'the other'. Why travel writing in the 18th century.
-Travelling nowadays and how we perceive other cultures.
Hard Times -The context of the industrial revolution. Facts & Fancy. Finding similarities and differences with our contemporary times of recession.
-Jane Eyre -Images & metaphors. Autobiographical narration. Realism.

-Major characteristics of modernism: the deconstruction of conventional literary patterns: time, structure, narrator. Emphasis on 'how', and not on 'what' is narrated.

The Form: a (post)modernist structure; a non-linear narration; literary resources (similes, alliteration, paradoxes, metaphors, intertextuality, hyperbaton etc.).
